Barbecue Grilled Asparagus

Why Dr. Hoody endorses this recipe:

Asparagus is one of the most nutritionally balanced vegetables. It is reputed to be an aphrodisiac, and is especially high in folic acid and potassium. Combine that with salt, needed during the warm weather, and the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil, this is a wonderful summer dish.

Looking for a low calorie healthy green, and a great source of nutrients, including fiber, folate and vitamins A, C and K to side to serve with dinner? Try asparagus! Eating asparagus has a number of potential health benefits, including weight loss, improved digestions and lowering blood pressure.

Fresh Watermelon Margarita

Watermelon margaritas are irresistible on hot summer days. Based on the classic margarita, this recipe pairs tequila blanco (white), triple sec, and lime juice with the sweet taste of fresh watermelon juice. Add a cool mint garnish if you like. It takes minimal effort and you’ll have a refreshing watermelon cocktail to enjoy in just a few minutes.

For this watermelon margarita recipe, you don’t have to dig out the blender (unless you’d like to), and there’s no need to process it into juice first. Instead, all you need is a muddler and a cocktail shaker. Watermelon is naturally very juicy and the easiest fruit to juice. The cubes break down easily with just a few turns of the wrist, while straining removes the seeds and pulp.

Mashed Cauliflower with Roasted Garlic

Looking for a healthy, low-carb mashed potato substitute? Mashed cauliflower infused with the rich flavor of roasted garlic is satisfying and can be easily paired with sauteed spinach and a grilled protein for a tasty, low calorie meal that everyone in the family will love.

You might ask, how can something so flavorful be so healthy for you?  Well, cauliflower contains some of almost every nutrient that you need each day, including antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. It is also one of the cruciferous vegetables which means it can help feed the bacteria in your stomach to create balance, it’s high fiber content helps keep you regular and it boosts your immune system.

CHOCOLATE DIPPED BANANA BITES

Why Dr. Hoody Endorses this recipe:

Bananas are high in fiber, naturally high in potassium and B6 and vitamin C. In this recipe, as only a small piece of banana is used, is also low in calories. The combination of the dark chocolate and the salt and with the whole package chilled, it is so enticing to the taste buds. That also makes it more digestible.

And remember, dark chocolate can help with brain function, improve the elasticity of your blood vessels, and allow you to elevate your mood. I cannot wait to try these again!
